Hello! We are Ton van Hekezen and Egied Bormans, both living in the Utrecht area in the Netherlands. We started Mantie out of a personal need. In our family and circle of friends, there are elderly people who live comfortably and independently. Although they are mobile and healthy, we still found ourselves worrying from time to time — even though we had daily contact through visits or phone calls.
It’s great to have an involved neighbor who occasionally keeps an eye out. But even then, the moments of contact are limited. And often, you have to rely on the thought “no news is good news”.
When we started looking for more certainty and real support, we quickly ended up with solutions like alarm buttons. For the people we wanted to help, however, that was not an option… And a camera was out of the question.
That’s why we got to work ourselves. We focused on a solution that offers caregivers certainty and reassurance, while at the same time respecting the independence of the elderly. The solution also had to be simple and affordable.
Mantie is now running successfully in several households! Thanks to notifications, caregivers have already been able to take timely action to help elderly people on several occasions. That is our main motivation to further develop Mantie.
Caregivers especially appreciate the daily information, and elderly people feel safe and respected. We hope you will experience it for yourself!
